Lakers Continue Pursuit of Jonathan Kuminga as Potential Starting Forward

The Los Angeles Lakers are continuing their pursuit of forward Jonathan Kuminga, with the team viewing the former lottery pick as a potential starting forward, according to Shams Charania.

Kuminga has emerged as one of Los Angeles’ top targets as the franchise continues reshaping its roster around Luka Dončić. The Lakers are reportedly looking for athleticism, size, and two-way versatility on the wing — areas where Kuminga could immediately help.

The 23-year-old forward brings a combination of explosiveness, defensive versatility, and scoring upside. Last season, Kuminga averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while splitting time between the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks.

For Los Angeles, adding Kuminga would provide a younger frontcourt option capable of defending multiple positions and attacking the basket — a potential fit alongside Dončić’s playmaking.

The challenge remains finding a deal that satisfies both sides. Reports indicate the Lakers have remained engaged but have yet to present an offer that convinces Kuminga to commit.

Potential Lakers lineup with Kuminga:

  • PG: Luka Dončić
  • SG: Austin Reaves
  • SF: Jonathan Kuminga
  • PF: Jarred Vanderbilt / Rui Hachimura replacement
  • C: Walker Kessler

A Kuminga addition would signal the Lakers’ shift toward building a younger, more athletic roster around Dončić while still remaining competitive in the Western Conference.
